Target Field Concessions
Want to learn how you can march with RCR next season FOR FREE?
RCR will be partnering with Donations for Education to work at concession stands during at Target Field events (mainly Twins home games). This will allow individuals and/or their family members (must be 18 yrs of age or older) to raise scholarship funds for their assessment fees next year.
You can work as many games as you want – if you sign up for a game you are always guaranteed a spot to work. Enlist your parents or friends to work with you and all it will take is a couple of weekends (2-3 games per weekend) to make enough to cover your fees for next year.
Here’s an example of how easy this can be. If a member wants to raise $600, they would need to work 10 games (at the rate of $60 per game). If 2 people from the family worked, that’s now only 5 games that are needed. And since there are many opportunities for 3 games over a weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), it would take 2 weekends to raise the $600.
This is an excellent fundraising opportunity for anyone who is considering being in RCR next year. You do not have to be a current member of RCR to sign up, so if you have friends or know of others who are considering being in RCR next year, tell them to sign them up for the mandatory training and get on the schedule to work.
One thing to keep in mind, most of the Twin’s home games are in April and May, so you have the most opportunities now to make money for next year. Make sure to pick-up some games in April & May, rather than passing on them and giving up the Fundraising opportunities. Once the event date has passed – it’s too late. So the time to Fundraise is a full 6 months (April through September) and those that plan this right -will accumulate a sizeable amount.
SO HOW WILL THIS WORK? ( Target Field Concessions Brochure)
TRAINING: First and most important is that everyone that wants to work even 1 time during the Twins season (from April through September) must go through mandatory training. There are 3 classes you must take (orientation, team and technical) but they offer them in an “All-in-One” training session, so the training can be completed in one evening (usually 5:30-9:30). Once you’ve completed the training, you can sign up and work as soon as the next day if you want.
-
Please note: we want to offer this to all potential members for next year, so if you know of someone who may be interested in joining RCR next year, please encourage them to contact us and make arrangements for the training sessions.
-
ROSTER: You must sign up on our volunteer roster. Simply email us with the following information: your full name, email address and cell phone number and the dates you will be attending training. (Look below for the available training dates)
-
GAME DAY SIGN-UP: Once your training is complete, Bob (president of DFE and scheduler for the concession stands) will send you an email with a game sign-up sheet. You simply check the dates you want to work and send it back it to him. Remember that if you sign up, you are guaranteed a spot to work, so you MUST show up for the dates you choose.
ONLY choose dates that you know you do not have any conflict with. If something does come up, you must try to give notice 3 weeks in advance.
If you are a NO SHOW, you will be charged $65 as a penalty. I would recommend only signing up one month in advance at most, unless you are absolutely sure you can commit to other dates.
-
GAME DAY: You will be emailed with the “report time” and other details needed for working the game, but basically it is your responsibility to be there on time. If your report time is 4:30, that means in the concession stand and ready to work at 4:30. Please allow adequate time for driving, parking and finding the correct concession stand. A report time for a typical game starting at 7:10 would be 4:30 pm. Food prep happens from 4:30-5:30. Gates open at 5:30 to the public and most of the sales will happen between 5:30 and the start of the game. There are typically small rushes after that. Generally after the 7th inning, sales slow down and they will close down some of the registers and have some of the workers begin with clean-up so that everyone can be done by around 10:00 – 10:30 pm.
-
REPORTING/PAY DAY: Once a month, RCR will receive a report of the volunteers who worked, dates, hours, and pay. RCR will also receive a check once a month.
One of the main things to remember is that the scheduling process is entirely done via email, so be sure that you give me a working email address and be sure that you can receive emails from Bob (I’ll give you his email address once you sign up and you can add him to your email “safe” list to ensure you will receive his emails).
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the first step?
Anyone who is interested in participating – even if it’s for one game – must complete a training session hosted by the organization sponsoring the vendor booths at Target Field (Delaware North Concessions). Dates will be announced as they are available. Most dates occur in March, April and May.
Do I get to choose which games I can work?
YES! So if there are certain dates that work better (or certain teams you’d rather see), you simply sign up for those games. If you sign up for a game, you are GUARANTEED to work – there is no first come/first serve rule!
Can I ask others to work with me?
YES! Anyone can participate – whether it’s the actual member of RCR or their friends or family. So if the member brings along two family members to also help work toward their assessment, then for that one game they will earn triple what the member would have! Just remember that everyone has to go through the training before they can work.
How much do I make per game?
You are guaranteed no less than $60 per person per game. However, the more sales that come in, the higher that goes – and with the Twins expecting larger crowds this year, you could make $70 or more – the number is determined by the total sales of concessions for the game. Most of the games are in April and May – be sure to get your training to start taking advantage!!
How long do I have to work?
Workers usually need to arrive about 3 hours before the start of the game to do preparations and then work through the duration of the game – so about six hours of work total.
What if I’m not sure I’ll march yet?
Any money earned during this fundraiser must remain with RCR by federal law. When you work you are technically a “volunteer” for RCR, and the money you make goes into a scholarship fund set up for RCR. Because we are a non-profit organization, we cannot legally pay you or transfer any funds to you if you decide next fall that you don’t want to be in RCR. Your scholarship money would simply stay with RCR.
The worst thing that could happen is you raise the money and end up not marching, but then you’ve just donated to a non-profit. Is that a bad thing??
Are there any downsides or costs involved?
Unfortunately, there are three small – but easily workable – drawbacks:
- Anyone interested in working must be 18 years of age or older. However – this can be easily worked around by family or friends of younger members working on their behalf (after they attend a training session). This also makes it an excellent fundraiser for the college crowd interested in marching but concerned about the cost!
Good news for those of you who will be turning 18 during the spring/summer. Training a month or so before age 18 is acceptable and encouraged! You can even sign-up for Events before you turn 18 (like 30 days out) as long as the dates you are selecting are after your 18th birthday.
- Parking is not free. However, there are some options. The parking ramps can range from $7 – $15 and these costs can be defrayed by carpoolers. There is also the option to park further away and take a train, light rail, or bus.
- There is a one-time uniform cost, but it’s only $5.00 per person (for a hat). A shirt is provided, and you’ll be required to wear black pants (no jeans).
Training Dates:
